Navigation Revamp

2021-2022 ~ Senior Product Designer

  • New Relic has grown significantly during 10 years while leading the market. Products have been connected to a platform as silos which is a reflection of how the company has been creating products. There are too many elements at first level

With no cross experiences defined between these silos, users find themselves lost when navigating in between different products.

  • From past research initiatives we know that users want to complete cross functional tasks.

The first hypothesis is that if we remove the product offering from the menu and base it on user tasks, new customers will understand the ultimate goal of New Relic from the beginning.

The second hypothesis is based on real state. We believe that a side bar navigation can help simplify the Ui by differentiating what is navigation from content.

Design Process

4. Proposal user testing

5. Validation and presentations to teams

6. Implementation plannings and project merge with the rest of the initiatives of that year.

7. Work with the rest of the teams, Ui writing, Product marketing, Design system team

Architecture proposal

Alongside with an information architecture redesign based on user tasks, we had to achieve a holistic way for users to understand main menus and global actions.
In the current UI users were spending too much time finding where they are located and they have a hard time seeking common actions. This proposal shows a “TopBar” which includes Page tittles and “Global Actions”
